Unimed-West, Inc. has joined the green movement (shaded yellow in this case) with its Insta-Cold Compress cold pack. The cold pack utilizes a urea-based mixture to provide up to 20 minutes of cooling at 33°F, making it more environmentally friendly than traditional ice packs which contain hazardous chemicals such as ammonium nitrate.
From the press release:
The Insta-Cold Compress is a single-use instant ice pack which is urea based, and is environmentally friendly. Urea, a natural biochemical substance, is non-toxic, latex-free and biodegradable, making the Insta-Cold Compress a safer ice pack to use and dispose of. The Insta-Cold Compress is safe even if the package is punctured.
The Insta-Cold Compress costs about the same as standard ammonium nitrate cold packs, yet has no transportation restrictions because its contents are not considered a hazardous substance. Therefore, shipping is less expensive, which keeps the Insta-Cold Compress an affordable option.
