Wolfram Alpha, the computational search engine, has a vast store of medical data for the student, clinician, and patient. We’ve previously covered the medical powers of Wolfram Alpha when the search engine first launched and when it beefed up its medical capabilities, with the ability to find information on specific tests, panels of tests, the test reference distributions cut by demographic and clinical data (ie, the fasting serum glucose reference ranges for a 29 year old pregnant woman), and more.
Up until now, the only reasonable way to access this treasure trove of medical calculations was via the website. Yes, Wolfram Alpha did indeed, have a very, very slick iPhone application, but up until now they were charging a ludicrous $49.99 for it. That’s $50 for an application that returns the same information you’d get for free by going to www.WolframAlpha.com. Well, the company finally came to their senses and reduced the price to $1.99, a 96% reduction.
That price, given the medical calculations and data this places at your fingertips though a slick UI, in our mind makes this a must have application. Also note that if you already paid the full price, they’re offering full refunds.
