The patient gown turns out to be a universally hated aspect of staying at a hospital. The open back, the supposed one size fits all, and aesthetics rivaling prison garb, all make for an unattractive offering. For the past two years a small group from the College of Textiles of North Carolina State University, sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation under the “Down With the Gown” initiative, have been working to make the getup more palatable.
