Deep Pocket Series, a small firm run by Dr. Harvey Castro, an Emergency Medicine physician in Dallas Texas, has released an iPhone application for paramedics, nurses, anesthesiologists, and oters, that calculates doses and rates for drip meds.
The application contains over twenty-five of the most common IV medications doses and multiple concentrations for the commonly used medications. It also contains a large range of weights. The application helps health care providers by allowing pharmacist, nurses a way to verify calculations on their IV medication. The application is not a substitute for clinical judgement nor a substitute for calculating the IV medication doses. The application is very easy to use with 4 clicks you can go from the list of medications to the titration chart. In example would be a list of Iv medications, then the user picks the drug using the cool Iphone spin feature to scroll quickly down the list. The next step is the user picks the drug concentration since most hospitals carry different concentrations. The next step is pick the weight of the patient. On the next screen you will see the specific table for drips.
The application also has a feature where the user can go from the program to the internet where it links to the latest pharmaceutical news concerning the medication. The application also contains a list of different tools. Temperature and weight converters from the metric system.
