The organizers of the X PRIZE and folks at Knome, Inc., a genome sequencing company out of Cambridge, Massachusetts, have announced an innovative charity auction to bring attention to National DNA Day that occurred last Saturday. The winner is offered a DNA sequencing of one person’s genome, all packaged on an encrypted USB drive for convenience, with a few goodies attached.
Here’s what’s on offer:
A digital copy of his or her whole genome sequence on Knome’s innovative GenomeKey™, a fully encrypted portable storage device. Once sequenced, the winning individual will join an exclusive list of the first humans to have ever been sequenced, a group that currently includes genomics pioneers James Watson and Craig Venter. A comprehensive analysis and interpretation of the winner’s genome by Knome scientists and access to KnomeXplorer™, Knome’s proprietary personal genome browser and update service. An in-person roundtable discussion held at the Harvard Club of Boston with Knome’s team of world-leading geneticists, clinicians and bioinformaticians to review the winner’s sequence data and discuss the latest genomics research and discoveries. While in Boston, complimentary accommodations at the exclusive Mandarin Oriental Hotel and a private dinner with Professor George Church.
