From the Birmingham Post we learn of an ferromagnetic material detecting system from Metrasens, out of Worcs, UK. Basically like a metal detector, but only for things attracted by a magnet, the system warns people entering an MRI room of potential danger.
The Ferroguard® Beacon display provides continuous, real time, visual feedback of the local ferromagnetic environment. This visual feedback allows for the identification, control and removal of ambient sources of magnetic interference that compromises the performance of other forms of this technology.
Visual feedback is provided in advance of a potentially dangerous object passing through the portal, providing more reaction time and less audible alarm activations than other forms of this technology.
Visual feedback from the Ferroguard® Beacon can be utilized to test and properly label tools and equipment used in the MRI Suite without activation of the audible alarm.
Visual feedback is highly interactive, but in a manner that is less volatile than an audible alarm meaning that personnel are engaged and actively involved in the screening process. Ferroguard Beacon has been shown to increase levels of safety through increased staff awareness as well as providing an additional layer of safety through the alarm.
