Medigard, out of Queensland, Australia, has received FDA approval to market the company’s blood collection device in the US. Though the company has not officially named the product, we have some information to believe it will be called Vacugard BCD. In the meantime, Medigard is looking for manufacturing and distribution partners in America.

The Medigard blood collection sharps collector is a unique design using vacuum to capture the needle after blood collection has been completed. There are very few safety blood collection devices on the market and those that exist use a cumbersome and costly spring and other methods. The Medigard sharps collector has the potential to change forever the way blood is taken and aims to eliminate needlestick injury.
