Intelliject, a Richmond spinoff of the University of Virginia, is a company that is working on a novel device for people with allergies to self administer subcutaneous intramuscular epinephrine. In other words, think of a new generation EpiPen. We saw company videos demonstrating the device, and we liked what we’ve seen.
In a nutshell, the EpiCard™ is designed to be the smallest epinephrine auto-injector. Once (and if) it becomes commercial, the EpiCard will be the size of a credit card. In addition, the device will be able to provide step-by-step voice instructions to patients on how to use the autoinjector during a life-threatening emergency.
