MediGuide Ltd., a Haifa, Israel company, has announced that its innovative intrabody positioning system for medical devices, designed for guide-wires, coronary catheterization devices, and such, has been approved by the European regulators with the CE Mark. According to a statement by the company, its Medical Position System (MPS) and MPS-enabled Guided Measurement Catheter (GMC) will allow clinicians to do “real time tip positioning and navigation of an MPS enabled (equipped with an MPS sensor) diagnostic or therapeutic invasive device used in coronary or cardiac intervention in the Cath Lab environment, on both live fluoroscopy or recorded background.”
The first MPS Enabled catheter also received CE MARK is the Guided Measurement Catheter (GMC). The MPS enabled GMC intravascular device is intended to be used in conjunction with conventional X-ray angiography systems equipped with MPS, to enable real-time tip positioning and navigation, quantitative length measurement, 3D lumen reconstruction, qualitative 3D foreshortening indication and landmarking, in patients who are candidates for coronary angiography and/or Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI).
Here’s more about company’s technology:
MediGuide’s MPS™ technology utilizes proprietary electromagnetic technology which enables to track sub-millimeter sized sensors in a magnetic field created by the MPS™ unique field generator.
MPS™ tracking is performed in real time within the area of interest for both 3D position as well as orientation — as proven in controlled lab tests and in animal studies. In addition MediGuide’s integrated MPS™ solution is intended to provide comprehensive solution for motion artifacts such as patient movements, heart beat and respiratory motion, while being immuned for metal presence and environmental noises.
MPS™ is intended to enable accurate tracking of tiny sensors in real time. These sensors are planned to be equipped at the tips of various therapeutic or diagnostic devices used for less invasive procedures. The 3D position as well as orientation of the sensor is calculated in real time, and is graphically projected on a 2D or 3D image of the area of interest (such as fluoroscopy, CT, US, etc.).
The company is eying implementing its technology for a variety of applications: robotic wire manipulation (as illustrated above), percutaneous cardiac valve placements, and more
