Nanocopoeia, Inc. is a small company focused on a small market segment but hoping for a big reward. (Lame size-based puns end here). Namely, they’re working on proprietary spray nozzle technology to deliver even coatings for things like drug-eluting stents…
The process is a specially designed spraying system that will allow anti-clotting drugs and polymers to be coated in ultra-thin layers inside stents. The thin coatings allow for a more even, measured and ultimately effective absorption of the drugs.
The proprietary spray nozzles can smoothly distribute particles the size of 100 nanometers.
“We’re within a year of this process being used,” said Karen Arnold, the company’s chief financial officer. The company hopes it will become a $100 million business.
Given that stents are a five billion dollar per year industry, there’s lots of potential there. However, everyone claims that they’re one year away from going commercial, and they usually do this for about 5 years before actually doing so.
