Flu vaccines are all the rage these days. It might not be long before we can get our flu vaccine capsules covered in rhinestones. But meanwhile, we’ll just have to settle for shooting them up our noses. And to help with that, the Flumist intra-nasal spray flu vaccine has just gotten itself FDA approval.
The spray is touted as being advantageous over the injectable vaccine because it only needs to be refrigerated rather than frozen. However, one needs two doses of the spray six weeks apart in order for it to be effective, which seems like more of a pain than a needlestick and a freezer.
If you’re a health worker and haven’t gotten your flu shot (I guess you can say flu spray now as well), for shame!

Correction: Flumist vaccine has been approved by the FDA since 2003. The current FDA approval refers to a new formulation of the vaccine that can be refrigerated rather than freezed. We apologize for the mistake!
