At Globes [online] we read about the infusion of $2.5 million venture capital into an Israeli company Rafael Medical Technologies Ltd. The company is trying to bring to the North American market its retrievable, uniquely shaped IVC filter (the device is already CE certified for the European Union.)
SafeFlo® utilizes shape memory alloys and is based on a highly innovative spiral design that employs the company’s SPACE STATION® intravascular platform for its fixation within the vessel.
SafeFlo® is unique in that it provides an alternative anchoring mechanism to the standard linear “legs and hooks” or “box and hooks” designs of existing filters currently available on the market. Due to their hook-based designs, such filters are typically implanted under cost intensive fluoroscopy. SafeFlo®’s unique vessel friendly and non-tilt design offers simple filter implantation potentially enabling bedside filter implantation under ultrasound guidance.
