With a focus on the rapidly expanding home-care medical devices sector, Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) will host an international forum in Taipei on June 1 — the 2006 US-Taiwan Medical Device Technology Commercialization Conference.
The conference will examine global trends, business models, and investment opportunities, with speakers to include Dr. Karen Talmadge, co-founder of Kyphon, inventors of an innovative vertebrae restoring technique they call ‘balloons for bones’; Dr. Tony Chou, head of Abbott Vascular Devices; and Dr. Peter Fitzgerald, the director of the Center for Cardiovascular Intervention at Stanford University Medical Center.
According to ITRI’s new Medical Electronics and Device Technology Center (MED), the conference is intended to serve as a platform for participants from a wide range of sectors to explore collaboration opportunities and spark creative discussion. Around 200 international and domestic attendees are expected to attend.
