Thanks to a tipster, we learned about a new form of biometric identification: Palm reading, from the Spanish firm Grupo CDW:
The Spanish company Grupo CDW specialised in new technologies has developed the first system in the world capable of identifying the individuals through the palm of the hand. The lines of the hand, its wrinkles and the folds of the skin form a unique image which cannot be repeated at a person, this image can be used as an advanced identification system. Grupo CDW has named this system Staff on Time “Palm Scan” and plans to market it worldwide under the brand Rimax.
According to the company, this method reduces the percentage of false negatives to 0.1%, a relevant data. The fingerprint has a percentage of 2% of false negatives.
But added to this, Grupo CDW opinion is that the Palm Scan technology has another big advantage: it is more comfortable for the users than others systems. The palm of the hand doesn’t need to be in physical contact with any surface, because the scanner works at distance.
Alas, we’ve covered contactless palm-reading technology before; looks like the battle lines are drawn between Fujitso and Grupo CDW — and they’ve got a real fight on their hands.
