The FDA has approved Vidacare Corp’s EX-IO system for use in the pediatric population:
The FDA already approved another version of the device for use in adults.
The local medical device manufacturer created its EZ-IO product system to give doctors and emergency medical technicians a way to inject fluid into a patient through the bone marrow in the event a person’s veins have collapsed due to trauma or dehydration.
While the technology is great and could be quite useful in trauma situations, it’s hard to stop cringing, thinking about fluid being injected via the bone marrow.
More from Vidacare (the available videos are worth watching). The product here is the adult version, but we can assume the pediatric version would be similar (although maybe designed to look like Spongebob Squarepants).
