The Sun reports about a new condom that incorporates an erectogenic compound. This revolutionary innovation is in the pipeline of Futura Medical Plc., a British company.
Some details from the company:
CSD500 will be a condom to be used by healthy men. This incorporates an erectogenic compound to help men maintain an erection during intercourse to reduce condom slippage [is that the clinical indication? – ed.] The gel is to be licensed under the trademarked brand name of Zanifil™.
The directors believe that the “unique selling points” of CSD500 will encourage condom use and safe sex.
Considerable work has been undertaken to understand some loss of the active ingredient, glyceryl trinitrate, when the gel was added to the condom and the complex chemistry of this system. Following further stability studies we are now in a position to proceed to production trials. Assuming a satisfactory outcome of these production trials and a final regulatory review, we would anticipate the submission of the medical dossier to regulatory authorities for an EU marketing authorisation.
Over the next few months we will work in close collaboration with our distribution partner, SSL International plc, to coordinate the necessary activities for the launch of CSD500, pending product approval.
SSL International, the owner of the Durex brand, is to distribute the new condom worldwide, according to a report.
