OmniSonics Medical Technologies, Inc. reports that it will be awarded with the Frost & Sullivan’s 2005 Medical Thrombectomy Technology Innovation of the Year Award at tonight’s Excellence in Medical Devices & Healthcare Awards Banquet.
The company describes the acoustic technology behind the product:
The revolutionary Resolution System enables physicians to treat thrombotic occlusions using familiar techniques without the need for additional equipment or procedural changes. The System includes a generator, handpiece and the Resolution 360™ Therapeutic Wire and is extremely easy to set-up and operate.
The Resolution System Generator sends an electronic signal to the handpiece, monitoring and controlling the delivery of acoustic energy.
The Resolution System Handpiece converts the electronic signal from the generator to low-power acoustic energy and transmits it down the Resolution 360 Therapeutic Wire.
The Resolution 360 Therapeutic Wire generates acoustic energy waves that selectively micro-fragment the fibrin matrix found in thrombus. Vessel walls and synthetic grafts remain unaffected by the acoustic energy.
