Viking Systems Inc. has received the 2005 Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation of the Year Award in the field of surgical visualization systems for successfully developing the EndoSite 3Di Digital Vision System, a 3D digital surgical visual interface.
This innovative system is composed of five devices, as explained by the company:
EndoSite Digital
The EndoSite Digital is the data hub of the system. With the capability to support up to two video sources (stereo or mono), the EndoSite Digital converts any video signal to digital SVGA and delivers real-time clinical images to the surgical team wearing the Head-Mounted Displays. A user-independent voice control module directs Viking’s Infomatix™ technology, which provides integrated information capabilities, including on-demand presentation of critical images and clinical data to the surgical team’s visual field.
EndoSite Head-Mounted Display
The EndoSite 3rd generation, three-panel Head-Mounted Display (HMD) is a comfortable and lightweight personal monitor which vastly improves OR ergonomics and stereo visualization. The technological advances of the LCD displays are analogous to three-chip camera technology. The three-panel HMD allows true 3-dimensional visualization by employing individual LCDs for each eye to display red, green and blue, resulting in vast improvements in image contrast and brightness with superior color reproduction.
EndoSite Digital 3Di Camera
The EndoSite Digital 3Di Camera System incorporates dual 3-chip CCDs into a lightweight and ergonomic camera head featuring two convenient accessory control buttons. The camera utilizes a patented Zeiss optical system allowing 360 degree scope rotation while maintaining proper image orientation, which delivers a high-resolution image to each eye in the HMD. This results in clear 3-D vision of the most critical anatomical structures. The 3-chip Stereo Camera System is made up of two components: the Endosite Digital 3Di camera control unit and the EndoSite 3Di camera head.
EndoSite Xenon
Complex surgical procedures demand uncompromising illumination for proper tissue distinction. Viking’s 300-watt EndoSite Xenon light source provides brilliant light to any minimally invasive procedure. Additional features include extended-use lamp life of 500 hours, an easy access lamp module and built in safety features.
EndoSite StereoScopes
EndoSite StereoScopes are unique to the EndoSite Digital Vision System and to the world of 3D minimally invasive surgical imaging. EndoSite StereoScopes provide the advantage of a proprietary optical path to transfer optimal image resolution and illumination. Superior construction and durability combined with the uncompromising image quality expected by the world’s most discriminating surgeons are the standard to which every EndoSite StereoScope complies. Available in 5 and 10mm diameter, 0 and 30 degree angle of view configurations, EndoSite StereoScopes deliver a wide-angle, fixed focal length scope to fit any application.
