Intro
On February 17th, 2007, the British Medical Journal published an editorial calling for doctors to "lead by example" on climate change. The editorial asked doctors to reduce their carbon footprint by not attending unnecessary medical conferences.
The editorial, titled Reducing the carbon footprint of medical conferences [BMJ 2007;334(7589):324 (17 February)], was written by Ian Roberts, a professor of epidemiology and population health at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and Dr. Fiona Godlee, an editor at BMJ.
Medgadget.com conducted an online investigation, and has established a list of conferences in which Dr. Godlee has been listed as a speaker, a lecturer or a committee member. Medgadget editors believe that Dr. Godlee, instead of offering traveling advice, is disingenuous when she calls for others not to attend conferences. She is a world class, and likely a business class, carbon footprint maker. She and Prof. Roberts, a self-described climate criminal, are responsible for countless future deaths of polar bears drowning in the melting waters of one or the other ice caps. These two irresponsible individuals are anthropogenic global warmers of the highest order.
If you have not been to some of the exotic locales that Dr. Godlee has, you can use our interactive map and visit them without causing further destruction to our embattled planet. You can zoom in or out, scroll back and forth, as though on a plane overhead, and all that during the break in your online CME course. After all, who needs to go to the conferences, as Dr. Godlee rightfully pointed out?
If you have seen Dr. Godless at a conference, or know about some BMJ-sponsored carbon footprint stampede (i.e. medical conference), please let us know. It is time to stand up and stop BMJ from further destroying the aforementioned polar bears.
