"Contact Pfizer" Now Available on Epocrates

Clinicians will soon be able to hit Pharmas up with drug questions and to report adverse events via Epocrates right on their iPhones. With over 72% of docs sporting smartphones and more than 950,000 Epocrates users, the ability to readily contact Pfizer and other pharmaceutical manufacturers to obtain rapid and tailored scientific responses from medical specialists may help physicians make more informed drug therapy decisions.

"Contact Pfizer" is now a feature available in the Epocrates drug profiles of approximately 40 Pfizer products. By providing easy access directly to the manufacturer, this feature provides Epocrates’ users the option for immediate phone access to Pfizer Medical Information specialists to obtain scientific information about the company’s medications and report adverse reactions. Additionally, healthcare providers will soon have the option to email Pfizer Medical Information for select Pfizer products.

This is good news. The update seems to provide physicians with easier access to the correct medicine. I had one question though. If a physician is not sure which medicine to recommend to a patient with a unique condition, wouldn't it be better if the physician first tests or reviews the medicine before actually prescribing it to the patients. The system is good but I think it would be more helpful if the doctor does not recommend the medicine immediately.

Biased information!! Physicians should be using non-biased sources to "to obtain scientific information about... medications"
