The 2009 Medical Weblog Awards Finalists

The 2009 Medical Blog Awards

After a careful analysis and consideration by Medgadget editors, we are pleased to present the finalists of the sixth annual Medical Weblog Awards. But first, a few notes.

Voting will begin this coming Wednesday, January 27, 2010 and will close 12 midnight on Sunday, February 14, 2010 (EST). We will have instructions, voting booths, and further details here at Medgadget.com.

Epocrates Essentials
The 2009 Medical Weblog Awards is proudly sponsored by Epocrates, developers of the #1 medical application trusted by over 900,000 healthcare professionals. Epocrates is generously donating an iPod touch to winners in each category along with a subscription to its most popular premium suite, Epocrates Essentials. The grand prize winner in the Best Medical Weblog category will receive an iPod touch with the top-of-the-line suite, Epocrates Essentials Deluxe, and a $50 iTunes gift card. Epocrates premium mobile suite provides clinicians with all they need at the point of care - from drugs to diseases and diagnostics. The grand prize package is valued at over $500.

The medical blogosphere continues to diversify, and our awards clearly show the growth in numbers and improvement in quality of blogs over the years. What has particularly impressed us this year is the number of candidates in the Clinical Sciences category. Previously almost disregarded, this category now sports excellent places to read clinical reviews, check out interesting case reports, and more.

Lastly, we would like to thank everyone for taking the time to nominate their favorite medical blogs. As our judging team went through the dozens of blogs in each category, we enjoyed looking through so many fascinating sites, some known to us, some recently born, but all dedicated to the advancement of the science and art of medicine. We know firsthand that each blog is someone's labor of love, and that blogging is both labor intensive and a very personal experience, and as such, we took the job of selecting the finalists very seriously.

And now, please meet the finalists!

I am either honored, or I owe you a Golden Llama. OK, I guess both are true. Thanks!

Thanks for including me in the first round of finalists - esteemed company indeed! I would vote a golden llama if I had one to Musings of a Distractible Mind - a well-deserved finalist if ever there was one!

Too bad I didn't make the final cut. Oh well! It was fun to be here while it lasted.

Not being cool enough to be Best Medical Weblogger won't keep Doctor D from throwing out his endorsements:

Best Medical Weblog: Musings Of A Distractable Mind (Dr. Rob blows away his competition in this field)

Best Literary Medical Weblog: Medical Moments in 55 Words (WordDoc's work is a thing of beauty)

Best Patient Medical Weblog: Queen of Optimism -or- ∞ itis (I'm torn myself on how to vote. These are the two best patient blogs out there.)

Oops! I totally didn't notice that RheumaBlog made the finals. Another awesome patient blog.

It looks like the real battle is going to be in Best Patient's Blog this year!
