More Details About The New GE Vscan Ultrasound System

Dr. David Winchester, our colleague at Medgadget's sister site Echojournal, is attending the ongoing American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2009 in Orlando, Florida. Via a company rep, he obtained some more details on the amazingly tiny GE Vscan portable ultrasound device that we recently covered. Additionally, GE has announced that the company is beginning clinical impact evaluations of the device at a number of hospitals in Italy and Spain to see how clinicians use it in everyday situations.

1 hour operational battery life, 1 hour to charge
Interchangable battery with separate charger
WIll have software to interface stills and videos with EMRs
Stores clips as MPEG and stills as JPEG
Storage appeared to be on a standard microSD memory card
Data is not locked and could be downloaded onto any computer via the memory card
CV, OBGyn, and Abd standard settings
Easy thumb control for zoom and gain
Voice recording at time of scan for patient info
Color flow doppler on the entire screen
Dock interface is very iTunes-like with files arranged by an assigned 'study number'
Availability is supposed to be next year
Price supposed to be under $10,000
