Upopolis Makes Better Use of Kids' Time in Clinical Care

Kids on an extended stay at the hospital often find themselves miserable from the drudgery, boredom, and all the overly serious adults taking care of them, let alone the actual condition that brought them there in the first place. To help kids pass the time in a smarter, more exciting manner, an online place called Upopolis was created for kids to connect to one another and share experiences, communicate with family and friends, and keep up with the homework from school. Upopolis, a project of the Kids' Health Links Foundation, works as a private network with hospitals and clinics as places through which kids can create new accounts.

Here are the features of the system:

• Stay connected …receive and send e-mail from friends, family and invited contacts …instant message chat with other Upopolis™ members

• Share their experiences
…write and upload photos to a personal blog
…create and join online discussions with other Upopolis™ members

• Stay up to date
…receive and respond to homework assignments from teachers
…read exclusive kid-friendly medical information about their conditions and procedures
...learn about hospital events and information
