EpiCard Wants to Be EpiPen 2.0

Intelliject, a Richmond spinoff of the University of Virginia, is a company that is working on a novel device for people with allergies to self administer subcutaneous intramuscular epinephrine. In other words, think of a new generation EpiPen. We saw company videos demonstrating the device, and we liked what we've seen.

In a nutshell, the EpiCard™ is designed to be the smallest epinephrine auto-injector. Once (and if) it becomes commercial, the EpiCard will be the size of a credit card. In addition, the device will be able to provide step-by-step voice instructions to patients on how to use the autoinjector during a life-threatening emergency.

UPDATE: A rep for the company tells Medgadget that Intelliject is an independent company, and is not a spinoff. Also, please note that EpiCard is designed for intramuscular administration of epinephrine, and not for subcutaneous as we mentioned earlier. We apologize for these mistakes.

How very exciting! I'm hoping this new design is easy to use and doesn't scare you when the needle-prick occurs.

i hope when I have my anaphylactic reaction someone gives me an IM shot of adrenaline and not sub cut.
this card seems a good idea for drugs that are to be given sub cut but adrenaline in a full blown anaphylactic reaction is not one of them
