Silk'n Hair Removal System FDA Approved

Israeli company Home Skinovations Ltd. has received FDA approval to market its Silk'n hair removal system, a device that works via company's proprietary light therapy, dubbed Home Pulsed Light™ (HPL™). Designed to be used by the patient, but with physician guidance, the system promises both efficacy and privacy.

The Silk'n is intended for removal of unwanted hair by using selective photothermal treatment. The device is generally indicated for dermatological use. The Silk'n is specifically indicated for patient removal of unwanted hair by using selective photothremal treatment under the direction of a physician, after training by a healthcare professional.

The efficacy and safety of Silk’n™ was tested in a multi-center clinical study involving 4 medical centers in North America and Israel over the last 12 months. A total of 150 patients self treated with Silk’n™ in physicians’ offices as part of the study, and the initial hair count as well as the post-treatment hair count of these patients was monitored by the investigating physicians.

An average reduction of 50% in the hair count was monitored three months post three bi-weekly treatment sessions. No adverse effects were noted in the course of the study, and the users of Silk’n™ recorded an extremely high level of satisfaction with the device and their results.

I actually started using the Silk'n recently and I love it so far. I was unsure as to how comfortable I'd actually be using it, but it's pretty easy to use and pain free. It feels like rubber bands snapping on your skin, so it really not so baad. I got it as a gift from my sister for my birthday and was unsure at first, but I've seen great results so far, and it will definitely save me a lot of money as I get spa treatmeents really often. Plz share your stories with me!

I've just purchased a silk'n and after using one bulb to do both forearms and one lower leg, I've realised that it's going to cost me a fortune. At $70 per bulb, it will cost me about $300 each pass of my body. So, if you add the cost of the machine and $300 every two weeks, it's going to cost me $2600 for 6 treatments. I could have it done by a professional for that much.

So if your willing to pay much more for something that may or may not be as good as a professional service, go ahead, you've got money to burn. In their marketing it states that it's cheaper, well its' not.

hi
i bought Silk'n hair removal 2 weeks ago and I have only used it once.I don't excpect to see results with only one treatment so far. I just wanted to say to people who are using it for the first time that do not raise the energy level for the first session AT ALL.because after 50 pulses it let you raise the energy. The manuall says not to raise it for the first treatment. it dosn't allow you to do so upto 50 pulses anyway but after 50 pulses you can do so. When i was using it for the first time, i raised the energy level after 50 pulses and after the treatment i realised the places that i put the energy was RED. I was so scared. the places with low energy were ok but the other places were red. I should have followed the instruction. I used lots and lots of ALOVERA gel on my skin.the next day i intended to go to the doctor but it seemed to get better.i kept using ALOVERA gel. now my skin looks normal. i awoid going to the sun.i am going to use my silk'n after a while but i will use the lowest energy level for a couple of treatments. I just wanted to tell my story to make sure people who use this product follow the instruction. It can have serious damages to the skin. I hope it work!!!!!!!! i keep you updated when i use it more.

YES!!!!!! I must say it is working for me!!!!! I did'n believe my eyes when i realised my hair doesn't grow in affected areas with ONLY one treatment. i could't see this effect untill a few weeks after the treatment. maybe the hair start falling after a while in affected areas. whatever happens i am so glad that i bought it. i hope it works for you too. i have naturally olive skin with vary dark and course hair.

George, It generally costs between and $750 and $1000 for a full body treatment in a spa, so $300 is a bargain. Go to a clinic and get a quote for full body. You'll see. In a clinic, 2600 will get you 6 to 10 treatments on your back. That's it.

George I think you're doing something wrong, unless your arms and legs are 6 feet long. I just got Silk'n, I did BOTH lower legs, then just the front of my thighs, I did all in my pubic area and private areas, then I did both arm pits, a few shots on my chest, and then got daring and did my entire face. My unit hasn't even said I'm at 90% yet on the one cartridge. Also I'm not being reserved with the pulses I've made sure to cover the entire areas so not sure how you can be out with so little...

Hi, does it really work? When do you see the result?

I got Silk'n as a gift from my hubby, and used it on my shins.... I thought my skin is normal/olive and now I have these big dark blotches, they are itchy and were very red after an hour after using Silk'n.

Any idea if these dark blotchy areas will go away? They look terrible! I can't remember what level I used for my lower legs... perhaps 2 or 3.

I used Silk'n (leve 1) for my underarms and bikini area, and those areas were fine.

How do I get my skin to be normal again?

Miss N.

Just got silk'n today.

I'm a guy but i bought it anyway haha. The areas i'm going to do are the hair area that connects between my pubic hair and my thigh hair. (upper thigh i guess). I'm also planning to do my butt b/c who likes that, am i right?

Have Brown Hair and white skin.
My main question is that, b/c i go tanning (fake bake) should i wait till the tan goes away? I usually tan with underwear on so it wont affect that area but what if i want to use silk'n on my happy trail? Should i hold off till the tan dies?

I've read that using this machine in 2 week intervals is "Expensive shaving" and that using it every week may be more effective? Opinions?/Comments? I sure hope this gadget is permanent !

It is important that you follow the manual/instructions...the last thing you want is something terrible to happen 'because you didn't follow the instructions' like it says to.

I did the first treatment on my husband last night who has quite thick dark hair (he's light skinned though). I will keep you updated on how he is going when i can.

Miss N:
With starting off in a new area you should always start at the first setting. This will enable you to see how irritated you skin will get...if after 24 hours it's not red and sore you're next session can then be done on the next setting up. The manual says that the dark blotchy areas will go away however it may take a several weeks to disappear (FYI the manual states they are actually bruises most likely caused by the setting you used).

Isen:
The manual suggests you wait till your fake tan has disappeared before using the Silk'n machine...the machine not only affects the pigmentation within the hair but can also affect the pigmentation within the skin also (thus the reason why it is not recommended for facial hair apart from the fact it may cause dorment hair growth).
The manual also states treatments should be done 2 weeks apart and eventually 4 weeks apart (the note about doing treatments on a weekly basis may be for other IPL machines).

Lee:
My husband has been talking about doing on his face (even though the manual suggests not to...may cause damage to eyes...may cause dorment hair growth...as stated above) can you tell us how you went with your facial hair removal??

Okey this is how its going so far.

Week 1 level 1. No pain. No difference in hair growth.

Week 3 level 2. No pain. No difference in hair growth. Nothing terible has happened either.

(started weekly)
Week 4. level 3. A little pain when doing it. Still no real difference to see.

Week 5. level 4. Got use to the flash. It really doesn't hurt. Now i see some difference. The hair is curling up, but my hair is naturally straight. (can't wait for level six)

Anyway i think i see how this thing works now. Basc the same way when you burn your skin significantly and get a scab, no hair grows on the scab, just that this way doesnt leave a nasty scar.
again, i really hope this thing is permanent. I will update once more and thats it so stay tuned. Next time i will give a def yes or no answer.

Pleased to annouce after approx 2 full body treatments on high my husband who has very thick dark hair has noticed a dramatic hair loss (mostly in patches...which may be due to me not doing the lines of treatments properly) tried a couple of treamtents on lower settings which didn't seem to do much. Must warn though he had a fairly high tolerance to pain...and found the first few lines of treatment on the highest setting painful however no damage to the skin. I have already gone through 3 bulbs and are awaiting another 3 i purchased online to contiue with the treatment. But all in all he is very very happy with the results so far...will be trying his face with the next set of bulbs.
