I was impressed to first time I saw a picture of this device in action a few months ago. I wonder if other veins beyond the extremities can be used. For example, can I put in a central line under the VeinViewer's guidance? I'm still eager to see it in action. However, I have three nagging questions that aren't answered by the included brochure:

1. How much does it cost? I can't find a model for sale on eBay just yet, so I'm left wondering the true cost. Although I'm sure many hospitals would love to add this device to their phlebotomy departments, physicians would have to order a lot of CBC's to justify the expense.

2. What are the side-effects? Sure something that lights up the veins doesn't come without its pitfalls. Will the first adopters end up with the same fate as the X-ray pioneers?

3. Can the company find other endorsements to litter its brochure? Quoting the same person three times over the course of a two-page document is worrisome. Surely other people have tried this machine and actually enjoy using it.

In addition to Half MD's questions, could someone gift these systems to the blood drive people? ;)

HalfMD:

The device is completely noninvasive. See here.
