A Funner Way to Prick

Amy Tenderich of Diabetes Mine is reporting on the upcoming Renew Lancing System for diabetics from CanAm Care, an Alpharetta, Georgia company. The attractive device, introduced at the American Association of Diabetes Educators conference earlier this month, is another example of the medical device industry embracing aesthetics in their designs. Amy does note some issues she has with the tool:

1) you can't re-use the tiny needles, and there are just 20 per cartridge, so frequent testers like me would almost use up an entire cartridge every day, and

2) I'm expecting the disposable cartridges are kind of expensive and inconvenient to carry around.

The tool, though, seems to be more suitable for children and recently diagnosed diabetics that take fewer readings and who haven't overcome the fear of pricking their finger, and so will serve a somewhat different crowd from the responsible adult diabetics.
