UltraShape: More Non-Invasive Liposuction

It seems that the market for non-invasive, non-suction, liposuction continues to pick up steam with the release of the UltraShape. This device is similar to the LipoSonix because they both utilize focused high intensity ultrasound to disrupt subcutaneous adipose tissue, and both appear to have scientifically sound research to support their claims. However, the UltraShape has added an "optical tracking and guidance system" for improved outcomes.

Therapeutic Transducer

The UltraShape™ patented transducer delivers focused ultrasound energy to the subcutaneous fat layer. Specific, pre-set ultrasound parameters ensure that only the fat cells within the treatment area are targeted and that neighboring tissues such as blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue remain intact. The hand held device also contains an acoustic feedback mechanism that verifies optimal acoustic contact during the treatment.

Advanced Tracking and Guidance System

The real-time tracking system guarantees treatment precision and homogenous treatment results. A camera captures the treatment area and a software algorithm maps the three dimensional treatment zone. The treatment zone is then divided into a grid. The tracking software next guides the user along the grid ensuring that each treatment point on the grid is covered. The safety mechanism within the tracking system monitors treatment to ensure it is performed only within the treatment area. It also prevents treatment outside the marked zone, and makes sure each treatment point is treated only once.

Treatment

The UltraShape™ treatment takes place in the physician's office after consultation between physician and patient. The physician first examines and marks the treatment area. Then, while the patient lies back on a comfortable Contour I treatment bed, an operator using a round, hand-held transducer (converting electrical energy into ultrasound energy) gently delivers focused therapeutic ultrasound energy over the marked region to selectively and safely disrupt fat cells. The entire procedure is guided by UltraShape's advanced tracking technology which ensures smooth, uniform contouring.

What happens to the fat?

During the UltraShape treatment, the membranes of the fat cells are disrupted. The fat cell content, primarily comprised of triglycerides, is dispersed into the fluid between the cells and then transported through the vascular and lymphatic systems to the liver. The liver makes no distinction between fat coming from the UltraShape treatment and fat originating from consumed food. Both are processed via the body's natural mechanisms.

Hmm... when the fat is not removed from the body surgically but just mobilized, I seriously doubt that this therapy will work without a strict diet!

Martin, that's not entirely true; fat released into the bloodstream will at least in part be metabolized due to the equilibrium of fat in the blood and muscle tissue. Fat absorbed in muscle will be used for energy. You are right that a carbohydrate restricted diet may well help results, mostly because the liver would then derive its energy from fats to a greater extent than from carbohydrates. We have treated more than 5000 customers across 10 clinics in Europe and are seeing very good results. There is some more information on UltraShape here

Hi Martin,
I was skeptical too esp. as a medically induced menop. person with suddenly a big waist after I had chemo. I was so unhappy with this new flat tire from chemotherapy, but I did not want surgery. And I did not really know if this would work. Sooo, I researched and researched for over a year. And then I decided to go for it and tried it and spent my hard earned teacher salary money on Ultrashape treatments.

And with a no carb diet and walking 60 mins 4x a week, I lost 2 inches per treatment the first 2 sessions. It was tooo exciting. Now I have 5 friends all going to get their treatment because they saw me in person have to buy new pants, fit in new dresses, etc. I am happy for them and look forward to seeing the results that they want.
The last treatment I did not watch my diet as much and oops, and only lost .5 inches.

So I agree with Moe, it does work, BUT the patient has to watch the carbs intake.

Well I was so excited that I made a blog about my experience http://hadultrashape.blogspot.com , esp. because as a techie teacher and blog enthusiast, it was discouraging to me that no other UShape patient wrote about their experience and if it did in fact work, or not! I was dying for info on this new technology!

Well now, I hope to answer people's questions about this new technology. May UShape help people, instead of nasty painful injections and painful liposuction surgery.

Good luck to everyone.
p.s. went to Mexico for treatment, its now in 44 countries including the UK, Prague, S Africa, the Netherlands, etc.

Ok so I do the treatment, walk the walk, and have a low to zero carb diet, what happens after its all finished, do i still have to stay on carb free diet, and walk the walk every day, or gradually relax, and the fat will not return?, cos if the fat cells are destroyed where will the fat go to?

Hi John,

Yes, I have been able to keep the inches off, it has been 3 months since my last treatment.

I do watch what I eat, but I am no longer on a diet. So, for me, it stayed off. Where did it go? The fat was mellted, and the fat left my body after a period of 30 days. My friends also lost 2" , per treatment.

If youd like I can ask them 6 months from now, and ask them if they kept all the inches off. Good luck to ya,
Teresa

Teresa: I'm not saying Ultrashape does or doesn't work, but your posts are practically written from a set of corporate talking points, to be honest. Tell the truth - aren't you just a fake blog put together by a PR company?

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the compliment. I do teach technology at a school full time, and this is my first blog. My blog quotes other website reviews about this new technology.

If I worked at a PR co, I would not use blogger, nor would I site many different sources. I also quote patients who have had lipozap, lipodissolve, fig, liposuction as well in addition to Ultrashape and provide links so that people can save time when researching different options. It does not matter to me what if any treatment they get. Maybe theyll stick with diet and exercise. Or maybe theyve already tried that and want to try something else.

Yes, I am a cancer survivor, yes I survived 8 surgeries in 19 months, yes I gained weight from surgeries, no I did NOT want another damn surgery, yes I had the time last year to really research liposuction alternatives and when I found out about Ultrashape, that is what I wanted to try first, as liposuction comes back bumpy and gross, and I could not find any happy paying customers who got lipodissolve, so for me, I went the non injection, non surgical route.

I wish you the best in whatever way you decide to do, maybe you will do nothing, and that is fine too, to do nothing is the cheapest route.

if you want to give me a job at a pr co. sorry I am too busy teaching full time right now.

Ultrashape does work if you don't go here and you know what to look for to maximize treatment. One of the technicians who performed one of my procedures did tell me that Dr. Tom Woo had recently decided he couldn't do liposuction anymore and I know that is much more expensive so I theorize that he's looking to replace that revenue by reducing the efficacy of Ultrashape in order to prey on people who hope and pray that Ultrashape will work and suck them dry of all the money he can.

At Laser Rejuvenation Clinics and Spa in Calgary Alberta, Canada I had Ultrashape performed. A series of 3 treatments on my thighs, buttocks and abdomen.
I only lost 1 cm per treatment which was quite perplexing for me as, other than these stubborn spots, I am quite fit. I am 5"7 and 140 lbs. I exercise avidly, weight training 2 days per week, elliptical trainer 3 times a week for an hour, and run 10 kms. twice a week. Everywhere but my trouble spots I am cut. After much research into Ultrashape I discerned that I am the perfect candidate so I forked over almost $10,000 to the Laser Rejuvenation Clinic which lauded the same results put forth in clinical trials by Ultrashape. The problem is that they don't observe the working protocol in order to achieve the results. Most pointedly as contained in an abstract from a clinical trial: Thirty six patients between 21 and 60 years old, 33 females and 3 males with diagnosis of lipodismorphism, were treated for localized adiposities in several parts of the body: abdomen, flanks or/and tights in three sequenced sessions of approximately 1000 ultrasonic pulses each one, made one month apart.
I received half that number of pulses in each treatment, hence my below average results. So I went looking for more information and discovered this: The patientīs position affects fat thickness and texture. Position 3 causes more thickness and the fat is softer. It can be improved with the help of elastic banding and specially designed cushions.
Utilisation of elastic banding and cushions: Cushions are used to position the area to be treated as parallel as possible to the surface of the treatment table and to improve patient comfort and stability. Banding is used to approximate the end of the ellipse in order to reduce tension and to increase fat thickness in the area to be treated with the Ultrashape.
The technicians who worked on me basically laid the tape on me , barely applying any pressure to the fat which did not isolate it for the machine to be able to pick up the number of pulses it would have required to give me the full treatment I had paid for!! Nor did they use any cushions to position me even though the special Ultrashape positioning pillows and cubes were on another table in the room. When I asked one of the technicians what they were for she was at least honest and told me they were for positioning patients but that I didn't need them! I just laid out flat on the table with a tiny little pillow under my head. I fully believe that they are aware of the proper working protocol because the last technician I had was a really kind woman and took pity on me because I'd just had my measurement a month after the second treatment and still only a centimeter of loss in all 3 areas. She did my last treatment and she cinched me up tight with the tape for the first time!! It's 8 days later and I've lost 4 cm already around my butt!! So it does work but you have to make sure the place you have it done is ethical and not trying to prey on people like me who just desperately want what they pay for to work. Thank god I had that one last treatment because I had actually started to buy in to the nasty consultant feeding me that there are some people it doesn't work for. They did allow as how they'd be so kind as to let me pay for as many more treatments as I need at the rate of $800 apiece. At the rate they do treatments that would have only cost me about another 10 grand or so. The transducer, which is the handheld piece of the Ultrashape machine, has to be replaced after so many pulses and it's expensive so between doling out the absolute minimum pulses they can in order to produce just the most minimal results and preying on the fact that they know even the littlest improvement could cause people to continue to throw good money after bad they have got quite a con job going on here.
I tried every day this week to get the consultant on the phone and left message after message. She knows I've figured out their scam and thinks that ignoring me will make me go away. She does not know me very well.
I am meeting with a class action lawyer on Monday and am hoping that others who have had similar experiences will want to join me. There are so many people on the web who have not had good results that I have to believe that there are other places out there conning people too.To tell how many pulses you are getting, the number appears at the bottom of the monitor right after they position the markers on you. There will be the number of pulses on one side at the bottom of the screen and another number next to it which reflects the pulses counting down as they've been administered. There's no reason that you shouldn't see that number and if you've been taped properly and aren't too skinny for the procedure it should be in the range of 1000 or more pulses per treatment area which is 36 cm x 36cm, the size of area used in the clinical studies for Ultrashape. The clinic I went to said it was the size of 2 of my hands, which incidentally are 18 cm long but only 13 cm wide. Another way of reducing the efficacy of the treatment...
I have corresponded with several people who have had good results with their treatments and they all said that they were taped up so tight they could not move in order to isolate the areas treated. The tape should be a Tensoplast type stretch adhesive bandage, not the stuff they basically just laid on me to no effect on me which was akin to packing tape and took 4 days of labor intensive scrubbing to get the adhesive off. All these factors designed to make what I paid for work as minimally as possible... If I learned just one thing from this experience it's pay attention and don't take anyone's word for anything!!
