2006 Medical Weblog Awards: Polls Are Open!

Filed under: Medgadget Exclusive , Net News

The 2006 Medical Blog Awards

Welcome to the voting phase of the 2006 Medical Weblog Awards!

Please exercise your right and vote now for your favorite weblog in the following seven categories:

  • Best Medical Weblog 2006
  • Best New Medical Weblog (established in 2006)
  • Best Literary Medical Weblog 2006
  • Best Clinical Sciences Weblog 2006
  • Best Health Policies/Ethics Weblog 2006
  • Best Medical Technologies/Informatics Weblog 2006
  • Best Patient's Weblog 2006
  • This year, because of so many candidates, we had to break two categories (Best Medical and Best New) into two polls each. In each poll, you can vote for a weblog.

Together with you, a panel of judges will be contributing to the cumulative score for each blog. Medgadget editorial staff is joined by Sumer from Sumer's Radiology Site, Josh from Kidney Notes, Enoch from Tech Medicine, Orac from Respectful Insolence, Steven from docinthemachine, Bard from A Chance to Cut is a Chance to Cure, Amy from Diabetes Mine and Allen from GruntDoc. Judges will not be voting in their own category. Moreover, judges will submit their results to Medgadget without revealing their scores to other members of the panel, so there is no bias for judges to vote for each other.

This year's awards are being sponsored by Thinklabs Medical and Medgadget. Thinklabs will be giving a complete Thinklabs Stethoscope Recording Package to the winner of the Best Medical Weblog. The prize includes a Thinklabs ds32a Electronic Stethoscope and a 2GB Apple iPod Nano with a Micromemo recording accessory.

Winners in other categories will be awarded by Medgadget with the latest edition of The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy.

Please note that the winners will be announced on Friday, January 19, 2007. Polls will close at midnight on Sunday, January 14, 2007 (PST).

Additional information about the 2006 Medical Weblog Awards is available here.

Good luck to all and may the voting be fair!

In Best Medical Blog category, you have the blogs separated, but it automatically forces you to choose one blog from each box, i.e. you are voting for two blogs in the same category.

    JM,

Indeed, you can vote for two blogs in Best Med and New Best Med categories each.

    Hi

There seems to be a software glitch; if you LOOK at the results BEFORE voting, and then try to vote (as I just did) it says that you cannot vote twice - even though you have only looked, and not voted!

So I have not been able to vote.

    Shame

    Hi

    Me again.

Why are you allowed to vote for TWO blogs in two of the categories? That is not logical.

And if you can, should you not make that clear

AND, I note, that the judges have their own blogs featured on the voting lists; that is a litte...er...unusual, isn't it?

    Eric,
I looked at the results then voted just fine. The site is clear in fine print that judges are not voting in their own category.

if you look at the voting system judges who's blogs have been nominated do not judge or vote in their own categories and the judges votes are submitted anonymously for the other categories so there is no favoritism.

People have said they are told they cannot vote again when they try and vote - and they have not voted before - what is up?

    Nancy Brown:

Polling software blocks cookies and repeat IP addresses. That means that if you are behind some kind of proxy (for example, AOL), there was someone who already voted. Having IP block is essential, otherwise people will be dropping cookies and voting multiple times.
