Triathlon Total Knee Replacement Specifically for Women

Stryker Orthopedics, Inc (winner of the most hardcore sounding corporate name) is announcing their Triathlon total knee system designed for women.

More than 60% of total knee replacement patients are women. However, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that, "even though they suffer from severe arthritis at three times the rate of men, women are less likely to undergo hip or knee replacements."

"In my two years of clinical experience with the Triathlon Knee System, it has helped me meet the demands of my patients, especially women," says Dr. Kirby D. Hitt, Head of Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement Surgery at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas. "My patients are consistently surprised with how quickly they can recover their range of motion and perform most activities that were difficult prior to surgery."

The Triathlon Knee is designed with a wide-range of sizing options that closely match the anatomies of both women and men. For women, the smaller sized implants have a more narrow design, helping to improve fit and function for the female bone structure.

We can safely assume that it's probably strong enough for a man, but pH balanced for a woman. Hopefully it comes in a pastel color palette.

Some of the coolest moments in Ortho come when you're standing by the bedside with an attending, looking at a potential compartment syndrome, and you decide to measure the pressure inside... and the attending says, "Get me ... the Stryker!"

Sends chills down the patient's spine, it does...

The author's flippancy is not appreciated. To find out someone is recognizing the very real sex difference in knees should be celebrated.

Do you do partial replaceents for women on the outside of the knee?
