Baby Gender Mentor™: At Home Gender Test
, Reproductive Medicine

The Boston Globe profiles a home test launched earlier this month that allows pregnant women in the US to know the sex of their fetus as early as five weeks gestation. The test requires a finger prick for a blood sample to be sent to a lab for fetal DNA testing. If the sample contains the Y chromosome then the fetus is male, and the absence of the chromosome means a female fetus.
The test is available for a total price of $275 exclusively at the PregnancyStore.com...
Update: Those interested in purchasing this product should consider the commentary from former customers below.
I believe one hitch with these might be that cells/DNA from a prior pregnancy can hang around an awfully long time & give misleading results.

They're able to find the CURRENT fetus' DNA, so previous pregnancies won't impact the results.

I took this test and the results were wrong. Acu-Gen Biolabs, the lab conducting the test, and pregnancystore.com, the marketer of the kit try to claim babies with conflicting genders have genetic defects that's why their results conflict. After filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau I finally received a refund from them, but never an apology. I hope this product is off the market soon. Considering how emotional of an experience pregnancy is, women don't need to be given the wrong gender or, even worse, be told that something could be wrong with their babies.

Don't waste your money on this. Not only are they wrong about the gender of the baby quite often, they diagnos unborn babies via telephone calls to the Mother..( but yet won't share their findings with the woman's physicians, to be verified.)
We've placed a complaint to the BBB, FTC, Illinois State's Attorney's office, Mass. State's Attorney's office, etc.
Their Ad is very misleading..... They apparently aren't just checking for the "gender" of the baby.

I unfortunately had a similar bad experience with Baby Gender Mentor - they said Boy at 8 weeks, then U/S at 12 and 16 weeks said Girl. I had an Amnio at 17 weeks (for a different reason) that showed girl. Acu-Gen lab was not able to explain the discrepancy other than to say that I should be concerned that my amnio was incorrect (and implying something was wrong with my baby), but after re-testing a new sample and their finding Girl as well, refunded my money.
Their claim of 99.99% accuracy is not correct as verified by the number of tests that they claim to have sold since June and the number of refunds they have issued- not even taking into account the number of women who have not yet delivered and who have discrepancies between 3D/4D U/S and the Baby Gender Mentor results. I urge the company to submit to a retest to varify their accuracy claims and to correct their advertising. If I had known that this test was not 99.99%, I would not have put myself and my husband through this.

This test is a HOAX. I took it at 6 weeks pregnant and was told that 99.9% I was having a boy. I prepared myself and my family for our little guy. When I had my 20 week ultrasound I was told I was having a girl. It took 5 different techs and 3 ultrasounds for me to believe them, as I had faith in the BGM test. After all 99.9% can't be wrong, or so I thought. I plan on waiting until my little girl is born, and sending in my birth certificate for my 250% refund! That is if they don't claim something obscure, like a vanishing twin or something, like they have been doing VERY often. I was financially, and emotionally scarred from this, and I hope this product is pulled from the market. They are preying on women who just want to jnow the gender of their babies! DON'T BOTHER WIth this test!

Baby Gender Mentor told me that I was having my 4 th boy. A 2D u/s at 21 weeks said girl by two different techs. The two techs made sure not to confer with each other about the gender before they predicted it. A 3D/4D u/s at 22 weeks clearly showed girl. Her legs were up around her ears and it was a very clear gender shot. I would not waste my money on this product. I will be applying for my refund after the birth of my daughter.

My results were also wrong. BGM guessed boy for me but I have now had 10 ultrasounds performed by 4 different people that all clearly show girl. (all 10 ultrasounds were done after 19 weeks) I have 3 gender shots in 4D-no doubt a girl. When I talked to Dr Wang at Acu-gen he told me they are not actually looking for DNA but rather "biomarkers". After they reviewed 5 of my ultrasounds they agreed to a free re-test. The re-test still came back boy but they refunded my money anyway....doesn't that seem odd if they are so sure of their results? Anyway, PLEASE stay away from this test!!

I took the Baby Gender Mentor test at 7 weeks, and they said I was having a boy. Then at 21 weeks I had an ultrasound, and the tech said it was a girl. I had another ultrasound done a week later by a different tech using a different machine who also said it is a girl. AHHHHH, now what do I do? I am not due for a few months, so Acu-gen said they wont refund my money until after the baby is born. I hope they are still in business at that time. Has anyone else delivered their baby and it was not what Acu-gen predicted? Please post and let us know? Thanks!

I also used this test at 8 weeks pregnant. The main reson I bought this test was b/c the ad said 99.9% accurate and with the 200% money back deal I thought I couldn't go wrong. Well the lab website said all I had to do to get a refund was submit a birth certificate. Well I did the test and it said boy. Well I would have to wait 12 weeks bore an u/s --but wait-- b4 I even got clode to an u/s the lab changed the conditions for the 200% back. They now want an original birth certificate ( which means they can apply for SS card or anything else in your baby's name), and they want a sample of your baby's blood! Most likely to clone baby's or other odd things. They also claim they have never been wrong. Well I advise anyone considering this test to visit www.in-gender.com and go to the forums. You can read for yourself all of the horror stories that this test is lashing on women.

I'm at 11 1/2 weeks and I just got my test results back and it's a boy
4th Boy for us :(
Oh well...I had hope, but now I am in disbelief!!!
Then I found this website and AGHHHHHH
I'm going RIGHT NOW to get an ultrasound to see if this one is REALLY a boy. I'll keep everyone posted tomorrow as to what the ultrasound says...Lets all Pray for a Girl (hee hee)
*Dont get me wrong, lets just Pray that the baby is HEALTHY!!! :)

Well I am back from my ultrasound......Tech says girl because she sees no penis. She wants me to come back in a couple of weeks to make sure. I really wish I could get an answer one way or another. If she could have shown me a penis I would be happy to know that my baby is a boy, but now I am back at square one but $275 poorer!

Michelle:
I feel like your main aim is to intentionally damage the product's reputation. And it seems you are not alone in this effort in this thread. Hard to believe, that anyone will describe result of the test, and then go to ultrasound, and then in a matter of hours describe new results. Plus, at 11 weeks you cannot see the sex of the baby on ultrasound!
As with other commenters, it is hard to believe there are so many false positives that have found their way to our little blog.

I took the test at 9 weeks and it said boy. We have been so excited about having a boy and getting the room and clothing ready. I had my third ultrasound yesterday and was told that I am definetly having a girl. I called the company and they told me that they "claim" that it is still 99.9% accurate (though I DO NOT see that posted anywhere on the website anymore!!). He told me that "all I have to do is send in a birth certificate"! - But what about all of the time and money we have spent on preparing for a boy!!!

I took this test when I was 18 weeks. The test results said BOY, when I had my ultrasound at 22 weeks the tech said GIRL. We are having a 4D ultrasound tonight (I'm now 33 weeks) so hopefully my husband and I will get a definite answer. I will repost later to let everyone know.

I took this test and was told Boy. Low and behold, I'm having a girl!! I am not angry, because I am thrilled w/ my new results, but I do feel that this was a huge waste of money. Looks like I am out of luck because there is no way I am sending ANYONE my babys blood sample- but, I guess that is the result they are hoping for since changing their refund policy.
To anyone considering this test- save your $$$ and either pay for an u/s which is way more accurate, or spend it on something useful.
This test is no where near as accurate as they claim and I will be truly shocked if they are still around 1 yr from now.

I took the test also at 8 weeks pregnant and they said its a girl.. My husband painted the room pink and when 5 months came, I went to the doctor and they said it was a boy...I went back to the doctor at 7 months and still they say its a boy. My due date is march 31 and Im waiting patiently to see if the baby gender kit was really wrong.. If so, I hope they will refund the money..
I did call them and tell them about my ultra sound and thier answer to me is that, ultrasounds may be wrong and when I provide proof such as the birth certificate they will refund the money..
Please email me at nholness@bellsouth.net if you had the same problem, also if you got your refund.. and if it was difficult.. This is crazy and as much advertisment they are doing for this.. it needs to be stopped if they are giving out wrong results..

Boy do I have a CRAZY story about this test. Ok, on 1/10/2006 I got my test back and it said a girl. That was great, this is our first baby and we have no preference, w just wanted to know. Well, yesterday I get home from my office after a long day of calling every person I know on the face of the earth and telling them our new baby is a girl just to find an e-mail from acu-gen lab telling me that they had a mix up and needed for me to go back to the web site and check my results over again. I did and now they are trying to say that I am pregnant with not only one baby girl, but also a baby boy. Fraternal twins is what they are claiming. I immediatly got on the internet and searched for information about twins and how often they occur. I then contacted my OB, who happens to be at Vanderbilt Medical Center one of the best in the country and gave him the whole story, He was shocked, I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks and another at 12 weeks and no sign of a second baby had ever shown up, but he said their was always that chance that the second baby was hiding. This afternoon he squeezed me in for a level 2 U/S and it confirmed ONE baby, NOT two. I called the lab back and they are sending me another test to take it over at no cost, this is pointless at this juncture because no matter what it says I won't believe it. All I can say is hopefully for them they will GUESS right (after all they do have a 50/50 chance) so I don't go after my refund. I also wanted to mention that the 3 ultrasounds I have had were too early to determine gender, but I will have one March 5th that should be able to let me know something either way. My advice is to stay away and just be patient and wait, I know it's hard. I just think that planning and getting your heart set on a baby and a name and all that is a hard thing to be let down about during this hormonal time. Take care and I wish you all happy, healthy babies...no matter what gender they are!

I took the acu gender test at six weeks. The test results said I was having a boy. I had an ultrasound last week (at 20 weeks) and I was told that it is definetely a girl. I too had a lot of faith in this test. I wish I would have thought to research it more before taking it. What I find very interesting from other comments I read is that almost everyone is told they are having a boy. I think it could be very possible that people are just told they are having a boy because there is a 50/50 chance. Well, unfortunately my husband and I have been all excited about our son and named him, bought tons of boy clothes and even paint. This test is really an unfortunate waist of both time and emotion!

I agree with Dr. O, I find this thread to be VERY SUSPICIOUS! Why wouldn't mothers who got correct responses post here? Even if the test was COMPLETELY wrong, they would have a 50% chance of getting it right.

I took the test at 11 weeks and Acu-Gen told me I would be having a boy. Then, at 18 weeks, ultrasound confirmed I was having a GIRL! Since then, two more ultrasounds (at 20 and 26 weeks) have clearly shown it's a girl.
To "Dr. O" and "Sandy" - I can see how you might be suspicious of these posts. Some may be fake, but I can tell you that many can be backed up with the posts on www.in-gender.com. That site has tracked (many confirmed by submitting their results access codes) over 70 women who have received inaccurate results. There is a very large, vocal, and disgruntled group of Moms for whom Acu-Gen has given incorrect results. It has been very difficult to get the word out about this test's inaccuracies, but we are trying our best. Moms who received accurate results are on to painting their nurseries blue or pink and naming their babies. Those of us who have been burned by this test are the ones out searching for answers. When you type in "Baby Gender Mentor" via google, this is one of the first sites to pop up, so it's very reasonable that many dissatisfied customers would congregate here.
For any Moms who are reading these posts and wonder if you are the only ones who have gotten inaccurate results, let me assure you - you're unfortunately not alone. Check out the forums at www.in-gender.com and please feel free to share your story.

Sandy,
People go out of their way to comment on products typically if they find them defective and fraudulent (as people here imply). This is especially so if people invest based on false positives.

I am about six weeks pregnant and did some research today on the internet to find out the gender of your baby earlier. The first site that popped up, of course was the one with all the postive feedback. I decided to do some more research on this test and luckily I found this site before completely wasting my money on something I would have had false hope in. Thanks to all you moms who voiced all your negative experiences, I won't waste nearly $300 on something that won't even work.

All the negative comments in this threat seem too suspicious. Surely, as Sandy points out, there would be at least 50% of positive results.
To me it seems that people out there are just writing to damage the reputation of this test.

It seems a lot of the results that are wrong are ones that BGM says are male and then turn out to be female. I was wondering if these tests were somehow cross-contaminated with other males DNA in the house. (Just a thought?) I took the test last week and they came back with girl. I am 12 weeks along and have had 4 boys, so I really want them to be right! If I would have found out how wrong they have been, I would never have gone through all this. I am trying really hard not to get too excited about this baby being a girl. My u/s is not for another 7 weeks, PURE TORTURE! Good luck to everyone and I hope we all can get our full refunds.

BGM said boy 3 times and I gave birth to a baby girl in July. Explain that one to me!! Of course I can't get my money back either. They keep requiring more and more.
Oh and Sidney Schmidt (the 2nd comment from the top)- thats the owner of Prengnancystore.com Thats her alias so she can defend her product.
Check out ingender.com to see how many women this has happened to. We are definetly not the minority. I grant you that it has been right for at least 50% of the people but thats a very far cry from 99.9%. You can't advertise that and expect people to pay that much money for it to be wrong!

I had the gender mentor test taken and it said a girl. I just had my ultra sound done last week and we are definately having a BOY! It is obviously not 99% correct.

I'm very glad I found this site before I wasted $275 on something that was only 50% accurate. I read on the BGM website that they look for either the X or the Y chromosome tag. Since girls carry an XX and boys carry an XY tag, they have a 75% chance of finding an X chromosome tag. Dr. O, if you are content with this "scientific" fail rate of 50%, then old wives' tales should seem scientific to you, as each of them also have a fail rate of 50%. Personally, I believe the old wives' tales more than i believe the BGM.

OK,
I guess I can understand why some are suspicious, but it sure seems obvious that ...
1) Those that got the correct result just go about their merry way and do not feel the need to investigate further, some are not even aware of the controversy and/or the websites full of disgruntled customers.
2) Those (such as myself) that got the wrong results are confused at first, they took the guarantee at face value and were worried when the results were incorrect. Then the confusion turned to anger when they realized, after searching the internet, that there is NO WAY that this product is 99.9% accurate. There are many, many others who got incorrect results, or worse, were told there was something wrong with their baby.
If you are having doubts about people's hatred of Dr. Wang , just look at some of the coverage that has been shown on national news..There is a couple choice quotes from Wang "We don't make mistake" ..(paraphrasing) That is one of the nicer ones...How would you like to be told that when your son is born that he "will cease to exist"....WOW.
If you don't make mistakes, how come I just gave birth to a little girl? They tested me twice, once after I had an amnio confirming girl, and they STILL told me it is a boy.
Here is my MAJOR complaint with the PregnancyStore....If a business owner sells a product, and they get numerous complaints that the product is defective, an honest person would try to make the customer happy, NOT accuse them of lying. Not only that, but the LEAST they could do is stop selling the faulty product until they investigate these claims..Instead, it is still being marketed as if nothing is wrong...Whatever happened to "The customer is always right"? She is just concerned that someone is going to take away her MAJOR MONEYMAKER.
Why would I lie? Why would I spend hours on the internet trying to find others in the same boat I am in? Why would I waste the time filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau? Because I was ripped off...The last I checked THEFT was against the law...
I would be perfectly happy if they guessed the gender of my baby wrong, if only they adhered to the 200% money back guarantee..Now they are trying to worm their way out of honoring that....Why???? Because they would go BANKRUPT paying back 200% all those people..If only 1 person in 1,000 got inaccurate results(the 99.9% that they claim), I would think they would have no problem returning the $. I moved 1 month after taking the ridiculous test. AFTER, shelling out that $ and getting WRONG results, they change their policy to state that you must have the same address that you had when you took the test!!!
Changing the rules AFTER I already purchased this JUNK is FRAUDULENT!!!
Check in-gender, you will see that they are being investigated by the Attorney Generals in (i believe) MORE than one state.
Why would I waste the time to write this if I was lying..Most people just don't want to see others get the same shabby treatment and basically get their money STOLEN from them....
The ultrasonographer at my OB's office had 7 people in a 2 week time span that got incorrect results from baby gender mentor, one of the incorrect results was to a female perinatologist!!! Why would the doctor's office lie? Are they in on the conspiracy too? They have nothing to gain by telling me that..
Sorry for taking up all this space, you see, I feel very passionately about getting this product off the market! I don't want to see others get ripped off, that is all...
OH, also, I am actually glad they were wrong, I I have a beautiful little girl that I never thought I would have, but I spent 12 weeks thinking it was a BOY...
Have a good one everyone

Dear OLDMom,
Thank you for your comments. I feel the exact same way as you. I took the test and was told it was a girl and I have had my second sonogram that you can plainly see it is a boy. We already have 4 girls and a healthy baby is a blessing in itself but we were hoping for it to be a boy. It was very emotional on both my husband and myself with the news of our 5th girl. We came to terms that is wasn't in the cards for us to have a boy and shared the news with all our friends and family members. I took the gender mentor test at 10 weeks and we went two months before my 1st sonogram. When they told me it was a boy I was in such disbelief. I just trusted a BLOOD test that was said to be 99% accurate. I didnt believe the sonogram. Just thought there was something else that they saw. I did tell my husband which made us even more upset and we decided not to tell anyone what the doctor said. I went to my next appointment and my doctor was so excited for me after having 4 girls that we are finally having a boy. I let her know about the gender mentor test and that I didnt feel the sonogram was right. She said I was 4 more weeks along and the baby is a lot bigger so she ordered a sonogram right then and there. So we did it again and this time you can plainly see it was a boy. What this company puts families through emotionally and financially really needs to be stopped. People have spent so much money on fixing up the nursery to find out they are not having what they were told is 99% accurate and the emotions...can't even put a price on that. If you come across anything that we can do to help stop this product from being on the market, please post it ...you will have alot of followers backing you. I appreicate the time you spent to write your email.

I would also like to thank OldMom for her comments. Most of them echo my own experience and feelings about BGM. I was told I was having a boy, and my ultrasound "predicted" a girl. I wanted to make sure, seeing as my ultrasound tech had a hard time checking the sex (my baby girl was shy, and she spent 45 min getting pics and trying to move her in order to make a solid determination), so I paid for another ultrasound to be done--at my expense. Had I not taken the BGM test, I would have taken my ultrasound tech's prediction and believed it...since she claims that she doesn't reveal the sex unless she's 99% sure (that percentage appears a lot, huh?). My first child was a boy, and ultrasound was right on that one! We didn't think twice when painting that room blue!
So we got the shock of our lives when she finally saw what she needed to see in order to proclaim that the sex in this case was female! She said if she has any doubts, she won't say at all, but of course she can't state with 100% accuracy. Nevertheless, I had the 2nd ultrasound at 36 weeks, and it confirmed the first ultrasound---definitely a girl (she overcame her shyness by then!) and definitely NOT the results from BGM! I also felt completely ridiculous, since I had shared my results from BGM with her before she performed the U/S. And now she was telling me that this "guaranteed" test was wrong??? I can't express how much of a fool I felt like....
I did not contact BGM or pregnancystore.com because I knew I had to have a birth certificate in order to obtain my refund, so I saved all my paperwork and test kit materials, and waited patiently. Now I have my beautiful baby girl settled in my NEW HOME (you see where this is headed...) and I have started looking up the procedure for getting my money back....only to find out that since I have moved I will not be able to get my refund. I do not remember that fine print on the guarantee when I purchased my kit (July 2005). I am very upset, not just because I received inaccurate results and was stupid enough to fall for such a product...but because I am now being cheated out of a refund for such a ridiculous reason! What does my current address have to do with their product and their inaccurate results? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. It is just a way for them to continue to cheat parents out of their money.
If anyone has found a way to receive a refund in spite of this absurdity, please let me know. And expectant parents...please beware of this product. While there are many genders that I am sure they have accurately predicted, there are many that are incorrect (if you go by other peoples' comments, and why would they waste their time typing these comments if they're not true? Any reputable company is not going to give people this hard of a time while trying to get a deserved refund.
And to pregnancystore.com...shame on you for continuing to sell this product. I had heard about the problems with this test in the past month or so, and I expected to read all about the issues when I went back to your website. I was extremely shocked to find BGM's ad occupying the entire page just as it did when I purchased the test! I am truly amazed at the audacity of people when it comes to cheating people out of money...and that's exactly what you continue to do by selling a "questionable" product (and I'm being nice).
Thanks for the opportunity and space to unload my feelings and opinions...

Wow I am so glad I found this site! Although $250 is alot of money, when you really want to know the sex of your baby you'll pay! I saw the kit in a pregnancy magazine and took serious thought into buying it, but with all of the comments on the page I think I'll just wait for the u/s. I am sure this test is accurate for some people, but it is a 50/50 shot right? I just don't want to risk wasting my money, when we'll certainly be paying out enough in the coming months for other things!

For Sandy and Dr. O, stating that these are suspicious is the dumbest thing I have heard, especially from a doctor. I think that when something states 99.9% accuracy, then how is there a 50% chance of them getting it wrong? You are a Doctor, hello? Do the math! Not only that, like Sandy said, even if the test was completely wrong, there is a 50% chance of getting it right, but how can it get it wrong if it is looking for y chromosomes...

Wikipedia has an entry on this product. Under the heading of "Pregnancy Store" , it states there is a law office in Oregon that wants to hear from people who are not happy with their results. I'm a bit of a cynic, so I did research before. I'm lucky I didn't buy this thing. Good luck to all, and congrats on your babies.

Why are we so obsessed about finding out what the sex of our babies are ? Isn't a healthy baby all that really matters ? I decided not to order this test after reading all these complaints. I have a son & it really doesn't matter to me if I have another boy (we only plan on having 2) all I hope for is a healthy baby. I miscarried our first baby @ 4 mos. I'm just going to focus on the joy & beauty of this pregnancy. I think I might even let the sex of this baby be a surprise !

Well, I too was going to purchase this test within the next week or so. I have 3 girls and just wanted to find out if everything would be able to be used again or if I should go do some rummaging to get a few boy things and then would actually have a rummage sale for all the girls things we have. Anyway, after reading the comments above, I will not put myself through having trust in a test and then it having a much higher chance of being innaccurate. I too feel we should focus more on having healthy babies and just try to understand we have no control and what is meant to be will be. My only disappointment being if they are claiming % accuracy that is not correct.

I took the Baby Gender Mentor test at 9 weeks and it said girl . . . my ultrasound at 19 weeks said boy. Obviously, a lot of people have had a similar experience, but I've noticed that there have not been many (or any) comments on whether the test ultimately turned out to be wrong (everyone seems to be reporting inconsistent ultrasound results). Does anyone have an update on the gender of their baby after the baby's birth? I contacted Acugen about the conflict, and they say that their test is right because it's supposedly more accurate than an ultrasound. I'm just wondering if there's any merit to this response.

Jaime,
You got scammed, and now that you realize it, they're driving more drivel your way, as though the presence of a penis on ultrasound can somehow be inaccurate. I suggest spreading the word that this is yet another scheme that people should be aware of. I would also attempt to get a refund, though chances are low that that will happen. I personally contacted the seller, but they would not transfer me to anyone that would help me. Good luck.

Jamie,
You have been scammed! I did the test back in February and they told me that I would be having a girl. Ultra sound said boy. I too was told their test was right. Well, on Aug 30th I gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby BOY! And getting a refund........not gonna happen. The refund policy is a joke. We bought a bigger house because of our new addition so I do not live in the same place....and sending my baby's blood sample to them...not gonna happen either. Live and learn I guess...but we need to spread the word on the inaccurate results. And to Melissa who asked why we are so obsessed with the gender of the baby and should health matter more...OFCOARSE WE ALL WANT A HEALTHY BABY NO MATTER WHAT.....that was a quite absurd comment to make to all of us. You too would not have even THOUGHT about the test if you were not curious yourself. Each situation is different and reasons for wanting to know are different. KNOWING helps you to plan.

Hi there. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has posted their stories...my husband and I had a shocker today! Our little "boy" that we thought we were having according to the BGM test of 99.99% accuracy, is actually a little girl! The ultrasound tech's, two of them , and dr. confirmed it, and myself being a Registered Nurse, saw a definite little girl at 27 weeks today! I had the BGM test done 5 weeks ago, with correct sterilization, and proper proceedures. So, if you are thinking about doing this test, I would seriously reconsider! We spent the evening exchanging little blue clothes for little pink clothes...and now we have to wait for our refund, which it sounds like from all the postings takes a long time, if ever to get here. Good luck to everyone and happy pregancies to all!

I'm so mad! If this test is a scam, what the heck are they doing with the blood samples they are receiving? My gender mentor test said boy, the ultrasound tech just told me girl today (she has never been wrong in 8 years!). We have two girls, and we had just gotten so excited about the prospect of having a boy! This is awful!

Thanks to everyone who posted. I just found out last week that I'm pregnant with our second baby and due June 1. Since we have a son, I'm really hoping and praying for a little girl. I'd never heard of this test before but I read about it last night in Pregnancy magazine and came on line to try to purchase one this morning. However, after reading all these comments and problems, I'm definitely not going to bother now. I'll save my money for baby clothes and the nursery, whether it turns out to be blue or pink!
Thank you so much to everyone who posted and saved the rest of us from the misery and heartache you all have been put through.
Good luck to everyone and congratulations on your healthy babies!

I just found out I'm pregnat- 6 weeks. I was interested in doing the bgm, that is until I found this page. Has anyone been to the site www.tellmepinkorblue.com ? Do you think that it's the same scam? I would really like to try it but I just almost wonder if it's the same? I called the number and a lady said that they'll refund with just a copy of the birth certificate and that it does work. But of course she would say that! I've always been told if it seems to good to be true it probably is... but I just really want to know.. Let me know what you all think if you go onto the other site. Thanks :)

Hi I was going to ordered this test, but also heard of fortunebaby.com. Has anyone every done this test before and did it come back true?

I took the bgm test with my 2nd child - it was right - a girl. I now have two girls and am pregnant again. I am excited to know if I need to start shopping for boy clothes or can just do the hand me downs. I was going to order the bgm test and saw that the gaurentee had dropped from the 200 or 250 percent money back gaurentee to just 100%.
Also the test is unavailable from the pregnancy store - maybe it isn't selling it anymore due to law suits.
I am looking into the pink and blue test and anything else.
good luck to all.

I recently saw a patient for her 2nd pregnancy whim I had seen for her 1st. In the 1st,my ultrasound FASAsm see www.KOALALABS.COM I told her ITS A BOY 100% SURE and she had a healthy boy born. That was 3 years ago. This 2nd pregnancy she came to see me at 12.2 weeks. I said ITS AGIRL 100% SURE. But she broke down and cried. I asked why would she not be happy with the ''ideal'' family of one boy then one girl. She said that for the past 7 weeks she had been expecting another boy ! It was THEN that I learned for the first time about ACU-GEN and BIOLABS maternal blood DNA testing kits...which she had purchased in August 2006 and learned from Dr Wang's lab. ITS A BOY and ITS 99.9% SURE. This presented a SERIOUS DILEMNA because I have previously published an article on sex reversal diagnosed during pregnancy where the uktrasound sex was female but the ''genetic sex'' was male. see Letter to the Editor LANCET Nov 3rd 1984 PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS OF SEX TESTICULAR FEMINIZATION BY ULTRASOUND....by John D Stephens MD.
As it so happened she required an amniocentesis because the first trimester screening for the health of the unborn baby (a routine service included in the ultrasound fee) showed an increased risk for Downs Syndrome. When the chromosome result came back it showed normall female. This was a releif to BOTH patient and doctor ! But it verified and validated my 100% SURE IT S A GIRL as well as enabled thismpatient to move on with this pregnancy MUCH releived and with the reassurance that the ultrasound provided.
The point I wish to make is that a maternal blood DNA test NEEDS to have the additional confirmation of WHAT WILL BE THE SEX OF REARING OF THE YET TO BE BORN BABY...because WHAT YOU ''SEE'' (by ultrasound) IS WHAT OU WILL GET ! (when the baby is born-REGARDLESS of WHAT the DNA test tells you !! )

Hooray! I just saw the pregnancystore website last night and was super pumped-up about ordering this test. Now I know better! I can't believe they could get away with such blatant false advertising. Is the Better Business Bureau doing anything about this? $275 is a lot of money for some people to waste, not to mention the emotional cost you endure. Thank you all so much for your post.

Same thing happened to me. I had the test done at 8 weeks and was told I am having a boy, my three ultrasound results at 20 weeks confirmed I was having a girl. I feel stupid of my self that I was thinking for almost last two month that I was having a boy and had so much shopping done. My husband never wanted me to do the test but I went beyond doing it and now cannot explain him about my expenses.

WOW!! My experience is like all these mom's...Took the BGM test at 7 Weeks, was told it was a BOY! I already have one boy, so i have to say, i was a little dissapointed, but was okay with it, named him Parker, got out all my blue baby clothes, even bought some new ones. THEN, we go to our Ultrasound, I tell the tech about the test and she says"that is not a boy!"...you can imagine the shock! So, after another ultrasound to double check...it IS A GIRL!!!! I am very excited about this news, but am dissapointed and angered by this product! So, now we are putting blue away, buying pink, and trying to tell my 2 year old little boy that Parker is not "Parker" anymore!!! (Poor thing is probably so confused!) It's just such an emotional rollercoaster that doesn't need to happen if either the results were actually 99.9% correct, or the prodeuct was pulled from the market!! I hope in May when this little girl is born, I don't have too much of a hard time getting my money back! This can't go on for much longer....

I highly suggest anyone who participated in, and was dissapointed with, this test check out: http://www.babygenderinvestigation.com. This is a class action suit against the manufacture of BGM. I have not purchased the test (though I was very close about 2 minutes before finding this forum) and am in no way connected to the law offices or any other organization with any interest for or agains this product. Being pregnant (and coming close to buying in to this scam) I'm just upset and frustrated for those who suffered from it.
